Wildlife holidays on the Ardnamurchan peninsula

Wildlife trips can be booked individually. Our normal summer weekly schedule is;

dolphins hire boat

Tuesday - Laga to Tobermory, full day £38pp child £30
Wednesday - 2 hour wildlife, £33pp child £25
Thursday - Full day whale and wildlife £80pp child £60

The above trips are subject to change due to weather and sea conditions, passenger numbers or private charters.
Every year we take guests from Naturetrek and seeing eagles, otters, Basking sharks, whales and dolphins with Andy has become the highlight of their wilderness Ardnamurchan holidays. Click here to see some fantastic underwater footage of basking sharks taken from Laurenca whilst out for the day wildlife watching.
Ardnamurchan is one of the last wilderness areas in the UK. We are proud to be part of the Carna Conservation Initiative and look forward to welcoming everyone with an interest in wildlife to this beautiful wild area of the Scottish Highlands on the West Coast of Scotland.

From the accommodation in Laga Lodge it is possible to see otters and porpoises and if you are very lucky dolphins when they pay us an occasional visit, Golden and White tailed eagles, Red deer, Pine Martin and much, much more.
Even better having the use of a boat throughout your holiday enables you to quietly watch and photograph many species of wildlife in it's natural environment without disturbance in remote and otherwise inaccessible places around the shores of Loch Sunart, Loch Teacuis and Loch Drumbuie. There are many resident and migratory birds around coastline making this an ideal location for bird watching.
Stay in our loch side accommodation, step out onto the balcony and enjoy the wildlife right on your doorstep.

"Starting at Laga Bay we went out to Cairns of Coll to see harbour porpoises, many seals, followed by 8 basking sharks, 2 Minke Whales and various birds, on the way to Muck." Tony

Even better wildlife watching without the midges! If you chose to include a boat in your package then you are one immediately one of the lucky people as once out on the loch your wildlife holiday becomes midge free, a wonderful way to appreciate fully all this beautiful area has to offer. For more information about our comfortable, fully equipped accommodation just click onto the Laga Lodge page with secure online booking.

  • Saturday 09.30 -15.30, set off for the Island of Carna and see the Conservation Initiative and habitat enhancement programme in action. Explore the island and climb Cruachan Charna with magnificent views to Mull and Coll to the west and Resipole and Morven to the east.

Again visiting the island of Carna, this time visiting secluded coves to watch these elusive animals in their natural habitat. A perfect opportunity to get some wonderful photographs.
  • Thursday, already the last day of your holiday and still lots of choices. Perhaps you would like to take this day to go out on Loch Sunart in one of our self drive Pioneer Multi boats or again taking a guided trip, with photographic stalking Red Deer in the Ardnamurchan Hills.

Testimonials

Wonderful stay
We sincerely thank Andy and Alliosn for a wonderful stay and genuinely nice host. We also enjoyed their lovely boat tour of the Loch, amazing, no other words. Must see Ardnamurchan point, furthest most land to the westof Scotland. Magnificent views, crashing waves and very peaceful mountains. We plan to come again. The Laga Lodge was beautiful, warm and inviting. Everything we needed. Love S. & S. 09/20/2017 Stephen and Shanley, Melrose MA, USA

Fantastic Scenery
We stayed for a week 3rd to 10th August 2013 at Laga Bay. Apart from staying at a fabulous cottage overlooking Loch Sunart, we had a fantastic boat trip with Tom (and Dexter his black lab) from Ardnamurchan Charters. Starting at Laga Bay we went out to Cairns of Coll to see harbour porpoises, many seals, followed by 8 basking sharks, 2 Minke Whales and various birds, on the way to Muck. The weather was great and a lunch in the Cairns of Coll, with its turquoise blue clear waters and inquisitive seals was one of the highlights. Andy (Tom's dad) also took us on an interesting trip up and down the Loch including Carna. Stunning part of world and great boat trips to be had. Tony, August 2013

A truly magical and fantastic holiday location
We have to give a very special thank you to Andy, Allison, Tom, Graeme et al and to Tag, Spider and Hendrix (the dogs) for making our stay so pleasurable. Lucy our Labrador is missing all the attention from her doggy friends. The fishing on Loch Sunnart was absolutely superb. The pioneer boats are superb to fish from even in a choppy sea, exceptionally well equipped with everything you might need when out on the water, from safety equipment to deep water anchor. We also had 2 truly fantastic days fishing from Laurenca II with Graeme and Tom (Graeme next year we will get that Skate). The soup that Andy makes for the boat trips on Laurenca is truly delightful. If only I could get the recipe! The wildlife is also amazing from seeing the herons, eagles, Porpoises swimming right beside the pioneer boat and the otters running along the shore beside the pontoon - a truly spectacular sight. We cannot wait to return to Laga lodge next year. We loved the holiday so much that I booked it before we left. Robert has never stopped talking about his week’s holiday. It was definitely a very memorable week. Best wishes and we look forward to seeing you next October and if we can before then - Alasdair, Liz, Robert , Mary (Granny) and Lucy the dog woof woof regular annual visitors to Laga Lodge
